Our Health Testing Priorities
Before any dog enters our breeding program, they must pass a comprehensive battery of health evaluations. We believe responsible breeding starts with transparency and rigorous testing.
IVDD Screening
Intervertebral disc disease is the most significant health concern in dachshunds. Every parent dog undergoes spinal evaluation and radiographic screening to assess disc calcification. Dogs with elevated risk factors are retired from our program.
PRA Testing
Progressive retinal atrophy is a genetic eye condition that can lead to blindness. We DNA test all breeding dogs to confirm they are clear or carriers paired only with clear mates, ensuring no affected puppies are produced.
Cardiac Evaluations
All parent dogs receive cardiac evaluations performed by board-certified veterinary cardiologists. These examinations include auscultation and, when indicated, echocardiography to ensure heart health before breeding.
Patella Evaluations
Luxating patellas can affect mobility and quality of life. Every breeding dog is evaluated by an orthopedic specialist, and only dogs with normal patella function are approved for our program.
